The Outer Banks of North Carolina is one of the country’s most popular summer beach destinations, but did you know that Thanksgiving is one of the beach’s biggest holidays?  Yes, Thanksgiving!  We have a number of Thanksgiving buffets at local restaurants, ranging from ultra fancy fine dining to home style southern cooking.  We also have some great cultural and holiday events happening.

A short list of events and opportunities over the Thanksgiving holiday:

  • 15th Annual 5k Turkey Trot – This Thanksgiving Day 5k race is a great warm up for your thanksgiving feast and includes post race events!  The day before the race, come down and help with the food drive for Beach Food Pantry.
  • Hangin’ with Santa & Kites with Lights – Children can have their picture taken for free with Santa in a demonstration Hang Glider on Friday or Saturday.  Saturday night, watch the special, lit stunt kites light up the night while listening to your favorite holiday music atop Jockey’s Ridge.  Brought to you by Kitty Hawk Kites.
  • Hatteras Island Arts and Craft Guild Holiday Show – Stop by the Hatteras Arts & Crafts Show and get an early start on your Christmas shopping.  The show features the work of local artists, artisans, photographers, and craftsmen.  Food Concessions will be available and several pieces of local art will be raffled off.  Complete your Thanksgiving weekend with a fun festival for the whole family.
  • Outer Banks Aquarium No family trip to the beach can be called successful without a stop at the Outer Banks Aquarium.  Come check out the Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit, local wildlife, and the new shark exhibit!

I know what you are thinking.  That sounds great, but it is Thanksgiving.  Where do we eat?

I am here to tell you that there is no better place for a Thanksgiving feast than the Outer Banks.  You can sample some of the finest dining in the country, specially made for the holiday, or you can have classic Southern Thanksgiving fare, buffet style.  If you have a large group (or small) and prefer to dine at home, you can pick up your complete Thanksgiving dinner and carry it out.

Whatever your desires for Thanksgiving, the Outer Banks has the restaurant for you.

So come on down to the beach for Thanksgiving and enjoy the food, fun, and weather (it is not quite summer time weather, but it is certainly much warmer than you have at home)!

The Nags Head Beach Hotel is the hotel for the Outer Banks.  Midway between Corolla and Hatteras, the Nags Head Beach Hotel is the perfect place to stay during your Outer Banks vacation.  We offer pet-friendly rooms, easy beach access, and complimentary Deluxe Continental Breakfast.
